1924
With the approval of the President, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Prime Minister, İsmet İnönü, and Minister of Health, Refik Saydam, the process of moving the hospital from Toptaşı Mental Hospital (Toptaşı Bimarhanesi) to Reşadiye Barracks (Reşadiye Kışlası) was completed by 1927. The barracks were renovated and made suitable for the hospital thanks to young doctors, to count the least, the head doctor Dr. Mazhar Osman, Dr. Fahrettin Kerim Gökay, Dr. Şükrü Hazım Tiner, Dr. Ahmet Şükrü Emet, Dr. İhsan Şükrü Aksel.
 1934
The first brain surgery operation at the hospital was operated by Dr. Hami Dilek. By the end of 1930s, Bakırköy had 40 services all of which were at sizes as big clinics.
1940
After the 1933 University Reform, Darülfünun Medical Scholl was closed down and İstanbul University was established. After this reform, the departments of neurology and psychiatry were transferred to the Hospital from Haydarpaşa Medical School. Mazhar Osman became the head of the psychiatry department and Mustafa Hayrullah Diker (1875-1950) became the head of the neurology department. At 1955, the psychiatry department at the University was moved to Çapa.
1950
The garden and the buildings were restorated. The area where the Hospital is located, namely the “İç Bahçe” (“İnner Garden”), was surrounded by a wall of 4000 m length. A copy of “ The Thinking Man”, which then became the symbol of Bakırköy as well as other psychiatric circles in Turkey, was put in front of the Headoffice (Başhekimlik) building.
1960
A psychiatric rehabilitation team was formed and society based mental health studies were initiated. The first mental health dispensary was opened at Aksaray. Later, seven dispensaries, affiliated with the Hospital, started to give service.
1970s
The limited number of institutions around the country and new transportation opportunities led to the critical mass of patients that the Hospital had to serve. Beginning from 1960s, the number of patients exceeded the capacity of the Hospital. Due to the resulting congestion, the Hospital could not offer sufficient treatment and caring services.
1980s
In order to minimize the number of residential patients, Outpatient Psychiatric Treatment Unit was established. The research on alcohol and drug addiction, which was started in 1971, was continued in Alcohol and Substance Addiction Treatment and Research Centre (AMATEM).
1990s
Bakırköy Mental Hospital Research and Education Centre (BARİLEM) was established. The Second Step Psychotherapy Polyclinic started to offer psychotherapy for some cases including depression, neurosis, obsession, sexual disorders and sleep disorders.
2000s
At 2003, the Raşit Tahsin Mood Disorders Centre; at 2004, Child and Adolescent Substance Addiction Treatment and Education Centre Unit (ÇEMATEM) and Adolescent and Young Adult Clinic were established.
